Residents in Bensonhurst say they are upset that their local grocery store is closing. Scatturo?s Supermarket closed its doors and Staples is expected to open. Neighbors say their community will be left without a grocery store in walking distance. They say elderly residents who depend on this store will be left with no place to go. Workers at the supermarket say they heard about the closing from customers and not store management. Some workers say they have been offered jobs in Bedford-Stuyvesant, but they say that is too far to travel on a supermarket salary. Staples says it has not finalized a lease with the store, although they are in discussions. Residents say they will do everything in their power to try and bring another supermarket to their neighborhood.
