A Brooklyn couple is proving that the doll-making industry is alive and well.
Anna and Juan Donaldo run "Goose Grease" out of their East Williamsburg home. They paint wooden dolls, which they sell online and in Brooklyn boutiques.
"The community in Brooklyn is very creative, and it's very inspiring," says Anna.
Most of Goose Grease's business comes from recreating family photos and making wedding-cake toppers.
The raw materials come from Colombia. The couple used to have another supplier but changed after learning that the previous supplier paid its workers as little as 85 cents a day.
"We were always wanting to have a purpose-driven business," says Juan.
All of the dolls are handcrafted in the couple's East Williamsburg home, giving them the opportunity to spend more time with their children.
