A Brooklyn band is taking the reggae music world by storm.
The family group New Kingston is from Canarsie but has been all over the country with their music.
"The band was formed by my father, Courtney Panton," says keyboardist Tahir Panton. "He is from Jamaica. Kingston, Jamaica, of course. When he moved to Brooklyn he had a band called the Kingston Crew and we are pretty much the new Kingston Crew."
The band consists of three brothers, their father and a cousin. Their music videos are filmed in Brooklyn and always show their Jamaican heritage.
Band members say their emphasis is always on family. The brothers and their father began rehearsing in a garage in 2006, and it's where they still rehearse to this day.
The group is going to perform this weekend at the Highland Ballroom in Manhattan.
