A judge gave the green light to Brooklyn Law School students to park their cars in a park, but some advocates say the public land should be off limits.
For now, judges who arrive at work at the courthouse across the street from Columbus Park also can park their cars on a weekday after 6 p.m. and on weekends.
The judge says his colleagues park there for security reasons because it is not safe for them to walk several blocks from their cars to the courthouse, especially when they?re presiding over sensitive cases.
But some advocates in the community say the public park should not be used as a private parking lot of the courthouse.
The judges, however, do not understand the resentment of the community to this practice, since they have been doing it for the past 50 years.
The judge who approved the parking is expected to offer a compromise to appease both sides.
