A Brooklyn landlord has been sentenced to 12 days in jail for failing to repair violations in his tenants' apartments. The city's Department of Housing says Olufemi Falade has 1,800 violations in a dozen buildings throughout the borough. The violations include exposed wirings, vermin, debris and broken locks. The housing department doesn't ordinarily ask judges to put landlords in jail. Officials say it's only happened three other times in the last three years and never in Brooklyn. Tenants at 1122 New York Avenue, however, say they would have liked to see their landlord get a longer sentence.
