A judge sentenced a Brooklyn mom to more than three decades in prison for starving and beating her young daughter, leading to her death in 2010.
Carlotta Brett-Pierce was sentenced to 32 years in prison for tying 4-year-old Marchella Pierce to a bed, beating, starving and drugging her. Officials say that when they found her, she had weighed only 18 pounds.
Marchella's grandmother, Loretta Brett, was also sentenced to five to 15 years in prison for her role in the girl's death.
The judge also issued a 100-year order of protection, barring the two women from having any contact whatsoever with Carlotta's two surviving children.
