BK record shops alive and well in 2012
In spite of the rising popularity of digital music sales, industry experts say Brooklyn has the highest concentration of vinyl record shops on the East Coast. Record manufacturers say there are only four major vinyl plants east of the Mississippi, with three located in the borough and one in Florida. Workers say they take pride in their craft, and that record-making is an acquired skill. "It's not something you learn overnight," said Dan Custer, manager of EKS Manufacturing. "The guys that have been doing it here have been doing it for a long time."Brooklyn houses dozens of independent record shops, such as Black Gold in Carroll Gardens.
