Brooklyn residents laced up their skates Saturday and prepared to say goodbye to a favorite borough landmark. Empire Roller Rink has been a Brooklyn favorite for over 60 years. However, the owner says with rising insurance costs, it became harder and harder to make a profit. Then, he says he was also pressured to end certain specialty nights after a shooting at the rink in January. Residents have held several rallies at the rink, saying they cant imagine Crown Heights without it. Regulars of the rink say it has been a place to make lasting memories and will be sad to see it close its doors on Monday, April 23.
