Vinnie's Styles in Prospect Heights is being featured in the industry's top rap videos.
The shop on Flatbush Avenue is not only outfitting hip-hop artists, but also serving as the backdrop for shoots with millions of views online.
Blocks away from Barclays Center, the three brothers of
Vinnie’s Styles have seen a lot of growth since it opened in 2002.
"We were familiar with more mom and pop stores in the neighborhood. There was more barber shops and hair salons, where the bulk of our customers used to come from,” says Paul Parris.
The brothers say the shop is named after their grandfather.
“A tailor from Panama who came up from humble, humble beginnings,” says Desta Parris.
It's not just Brooklyn residents looking to snag Vinnie’s merchandise, it's become a symbol of the borough overseas as well.
“It was a signature Brooklyn T-shirt, and it caught like wildfire, in the streets of New York, in the streets of Japan, all over the world, so that kind of gave us the platform of our identity,” says Parris.
For years it's been the go-to place for rappers, especially for outfits.
The store has also been gaining popularity on the Brooklyn “drill” scene, a form of rap music that started in Chicago.
"We definitely want to help the youth, anything that we can do to help them. We encourage them to shoot their music videos here,” says Parris. “There's not that many places that they offer up that type of voice for them.”
