A Sunset Park learning center is encouraging Brooklyn students to study hard, but also prepare themselves for a professional working environment.
Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow offers two 20-week sessions a year in which students are treated like employees and held to professional standards each day in class. Students must come to the center dressed professionally. If they arrive at school late, they must stay late to make up their time.
Teachers say this ?tough love? approach gives students a glimpse into the lives of working professionals and quickly prepares them for future jobs. Amid high unemployment rates, teachers and students alike think the opportunity to practice professionalism is a valuable one.
Students graduate from the program with computer skills, interviewing techniques and their high school diplomas.
