Brooklyn tenants rallied Monday for more multi-lingual Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) inspectors.

A new report finds it is hard for non-English speaking tenants to access the services they need. Researchers have also found non-English speaking families make far fewer housing complaints because many don?t know that help is available.

City officials say they are making progress because about half of the 400 HPD inspectors already speak English. The HPD adds that its staff also has access to translation services for more than 150 languages. Meanwhile, immigrant groups say they will continue their campaign to make sure those who don?t speak English get the help they deserve.
