A new walkable art exhibit opens this weekend at the Weeksville Heritage Center.
The exhibit titled is titled Funk, God, Jazz and Medicine: Black Radical Brooklyn. The theme is self-determination, and it examines the black community in the Weeksville area starting in 1838, 11 years after slavery ended.
Curators say the histories displayed in the exhibit are not often taught in schools.
The exhibit will run through Oct. 12 and is open Friday through Sunday from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.
