The Republican candidate for governor is out with his plan to curb crime, called Connecticut SAFE.

Bob Stefanowski wants to roll back part of the 2020 police accountability law that makes officers personally liable for "wanton or malicious" conduct.

"We're going to look at the use-of-force standard. Very, very hard for a police officer -- anybody in law enforcement -- to make a split-second decision on what to do," said Stefanowski.

The governor stands firm on the current law.

"99.9% of our police do an extraordinary job. That very tiny cohort, they should be held accountable. That person who has a knee on George Floyd's neck for nine minutes should be held accountable," said Gov. Ned Lamont.

This week, state police released new statistics showing most crimes were down in 2021.
