The United Bodegas of America is calling on lawmakers to protect those looking to escape violence by using the stores as a haven.
This comes after police released stunning surveillance video showing Cleveland Smith, 35 running down Eastburn Avenue in Mount Hope when a man chasing him suddenly pulled out a gun and fired it.
The victim and shooter then entered the Felomar Bodega, which is where police say they found Smith suffering from a gunshot wound in the stomach.
Police say Smith was taken to a hospital and died.
Authorities say the men responsible for that shooting got away on a scooter. They are still looking for them.
