Election Day may be over, but the work is far from being done.
Poll workers worked Tuesday to tally and count absentee ballots.
Even though some winners were projected in last week's election, those results are not final.
Workers at the Board of Elections are canvassing the ballots, meaning they are going through each absentee and affidavit ballot, making sure they are valid.
They’re checking the signatures to make sure they match; they’re checking that the envelope was sealed and they’re looking for any marks on the ballot. Then they tally the ballots and run them through the scanner. Each table has a Republican and a Democrat working side by side to ensure everything is done fairly.
They do not have a set timeline on when they will be finished. The BOE says they are working as quickly as possible but focusing on accuracy.
Workers will be at the Board of Elections seven days a week form 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. until the process is complete.
