? Tenants in a Borough Park building say their landlord is trying to force them out by failing to make repairs and denying their rent payments.
Tenants at 221 Avenue F say the landlord has started a yeshiva in the basement and they believe he wants to use the entire building as a school. However, housing advocates say the landlord has not won any evictions in court. The building has racked up 380 violations, most of which were citied in the last year. Tenants also say students at the yeshiva are rude and make racist remarks toward them.
The New York Community Bank, which holds the building?s mortgage, recently performed a site inspection. Tenants hope the landlord?s neglect will backfire, making it impossible for him to use the building as a school.
