Health officials are urging students and teachers at Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn to seek medical help if they feel sick after a student tested positive for meningitis.
Meningitis is potentially deadly and affects the spine and brain. Officials say it is spread person-to-person through nasal and throat fluids. Some symptoms include headache, fever, vomiting and stiff neck. The symptoms may not show up until two to 10 days after initial contact with an infected person.
Health officials plan to return to the school this week to answer questions and address concerns.
