BQ Green proposal gains support along BQE
The proposed BQ Green Project aims to put a 3.5-acre park along the BQE between the existing Rodney and Marcy Green parks and diminish some of the air pollution critics blame on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
Advocates are stepping up pressure on the city government to make it a reality.
So far, Public Advocate Letitia James and Councilman Antonio Reynoso are among those who support the proposal. Mayor Bill de Blasio did not immediately respond to a News 12 request for comment on the idea.
The area is known for heavy air pollution, and clean-air activists rallied for the proposal Wednesday, blaming the conditions for asthma.
Some of the ralliers wore gas masks to emphasize their demands.
"Today our lungs are filled with pollutants," one activist told the gathered crowd. "We are dying right now."
