OVERNIGHT: Temperatures will dip back below freezing by midnight and fall into the upper 20s for the Wednesday morning commute. With a light breeze, it will feel like the mid-20s. Layers and accessories are key in this stretch of very cold weather, with even colder weather expected later this week.
MIDWEEK: Before even colder air arrives by the end of the workweek, a smaller storm will pass Wednesday night and Thursday morning with a few rain and/or snow showers. Known as an Alberta Clipper, this kind of storm "clips" the area with lighter rain or snow, usually during the winter. Depending on how much cold air sticks around, there is the potential for a quick coating of snow Thursday morning. If there is not enough cold air, it will be more rain with some wet snow mixed in.
DAMAGING WIND: Any rain or snow ends by midday Thursday, and it rapidly becomes frigid and windy. An arctic wicked wind will roar in by noon, with 40-50 mph gusts likely during the afternoon. That could lead to tree and power damage, and any loose holiday decorations will fly away.
END OF THE WEEK: Temperatures crash back to the 20s by Friday morning, feeling like the teens. This brutally cold weather lasts into the start of the weekend, feeling like the teens Saturday morning. Much warmer weather awaits next week with 50s on Tuesday and Wednesday and more opportunities for rain.
