Here’s what you need to know:
- A HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK is in effect this morning through Wednesday evening. This will likely get extended through Friday as Hurricane Erin will make its closest approach Thursday night into Friday bringing life-threatening rip currents to the ocean facing beaches.
- A HIGH SURF ADVISORY is in effect from 6 a.m. Wednesday through 6 p.m. Thursday.
- It's a cool, partly cloudy and breezy start to the day. Temperatures are in the mid-60s.
- Today will be another Fall-like day with more sunshine and breezy conditions. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s.
- An approaching cold front will bring showers on Wednesday into Thursday morning. This is not associated with Hurricane Erin. This storm system is actually helping steer Erin away from our area this week. However, expect scattered steady showers after 2 p.m. on Wednesday through 7 a.m. on Thursday.
- It gets a bit warmer Thursday into the weekend to the low to mid-80s with increasing humidity. Our next chance of rain is possibly Sunday evening. Stay tuned for updates.
TRACKING THE TROPICS: We're currently monitoring three areas of interest in the Atlantic basin. Hurricane Erin has downgraded to a category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 120mph. It's still a powerful storm moving Northwest in the Atlantic away from the east coast and Bermuda. Erin will start bringing life-threatening rip currents, potentially minor coastal flooding during high tide and beach erosion to our ocean facing beaches today through Friday. It will make its closest approach Thursday night into Friday, over 500 miles to our southeast as a category two hurricane. The other tropical disturbance has a medium chance of further development in the Tropical Atlantic over the next 7 days. This storm should be watched closely as it could become our next named storm later this week and possibly impact parts of the Leeward Islands. There's another tropical wave off the coast of Africa that has a low chance of development. Stay tuned for updates!
