Young Brooklyn residents are taking to social media to call on the city to fix Grady Park in Brighton Beach.
Angel Perez and Shleimy Peralta say cracked pavement, old basketball rims and poor lighting are just some of the issues the park faces.
The video now has nearly 1,000,000 views, more than 200,000 likes and more than 2,000 comments.
“I thought it was gonna get like 100 views max, but then like the next day I saw it and I started to like get so many views and likes. And I was like, like, no way,” said Peralta.
Perez says parks are foundational for young people.
“Nowadays, young people just, you know, want to hang in groups to do bad things, which I disagree with that, cause we're going to eventually be the example for the next generation,” said Perez.
“If we have some better parks, it could bring the communities together,” said Peralta.
News 12 reached out to the NYC Parks Department, which says currently there are no projects scheduled for the playground. However, they said that that’s the purpose of a new program called Renew Crew. The young men say they are going to report the issues there.
“I definitely have hope that they’re going to fix this park,” said Perez.
