The Brighton Jubilee celebrated its 45th anniversary in Brighton Beach Sunday.
The beloved street fair was first created by the Brighton Neighborhood Association in 1977.
“When we started off, the neighborhood was deteriorating, and people were writing us off, and we said we're going to fight back,” described association member Pat Singer.
Since that first Jubilee, people have grown to cherish the event.
Among the nearly 300 vendors present on Brighton Beach Avenue was Donna of Donna’s Sausages.
“My father started coming in 1979 and me and my brothers took over the business and we're still coming back,” she said.
Assembly-member Steven Cymbrowitz also attended the festivities. He presented Singer and the Brighton Neighborhood Association with a proclamation that reads, “For the 45 years of dedication and hard work that they have done for the community.”
