A group of people who thought they were set to get their COVID-19 vaccinations at a Bronx church Sunday were frustrated when there were no shots to give.
The citywide vaccine mandate for private employers goes into effect Monday, so some residents scheduled to get their shots Sunday at Sacred Heart Church on Shakespeare Avenue.
The only problem is no one from the city showed up at the location to give out the vaccines.
News 12 was told over a dozen Bronx residents waited early Sunday morning to get their shot, with many leaving when they realized they weren’t going to get one.
Some people who thought they were scheduled showed News 12 emails and forms from the city confirming their vaccine appointments at the church for Sunday.
The church's head priest says the city always reaches out a day or two ahead of time to ask if they can either pull up a vaccine truck outside or use the basement for the shots if it’s cold. However, he says no one mentioned a vaccination event for Sunday.
Some Bronx residents stuck around the church for longer, while others tried to find nearby places to reschedule and get the shot as soon as they can.
