Bronx clergy members are among those calling on the U.S. Justice Department to investigate the city's stop-and-frisk program.
Rev. Al Sharpton, public advocate Bill DeBlasio and other local leaders joined clergy members for a summit Friday to discuss their role in reforming the controversial policy, which allows officers to randomly stop and search people in public.
Opponents argue the procedure unfairly targets minorities, but Mayor Michael Bloomberg and NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly have repeatedly defended the policy, arguing that it saves lives and keeps criminals off the street.
