For Women's History Month, News 12 got an inside look of how a Bronx native grew her candle-making business.
Paige Graham started making candles in her home about 13 years ago, and now her handcrafted merchandise can be seen all across the country. Paige's Candle Co. started six years ago, and Graham makes them right in her Brooklyn studio.
"I am very proud of myself. It is a very humbling experience especially because I always believed that I could do it. I just needed the time," Graham says.
She says she started off with just a few aromas, but she now mixes and matches over a dozen scents. She also provides private and white label.
Graham says getting to this point in her business meant a lot of grit and determination as well as some trial and error.
"Once we decide to make an aroma, we test to make sure it is efficient in candle-making. We have to make sure that the wick is at an efficient measurement so that it burns evenly and after the cure time, the candle is smelling great," Graham explains.
Graham has a message to other entrepreneurs who are looking to follow their passion: "When you feel like you are going to reach your breaking point or you are at your breaking point, don't stop. That is the only trick."
