A horse living in a condemned stable for at least a year has Morris Park and Pelham Parkway community members outraged. The community outcry for 'Rusty' has gotten the attention of Sen. Jeffry Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), who agrees that the horse deserves better housing than the stable, claiming that if it's not good enough for a human, it's not good enough for a horse. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) says that there is no evidence of abuse or neglect, in spite of the poor condition of the stable.Buster Marengo, Rusty's owner, says that the rallying residents don't have anything better to do and insists that he loves and properly cares for his horse. The senator says the stable will be sold at auction in the coming weeks.
