Even though a coronavirus vaccine is on the way, health experts say now is not the time to get complacent. Now, a Bronx pharmacy is joining the effort to help get more people tested and help stop the spread.
The Pilgrim Pharmacy in Pelham Bay has been around for nearly 45 years. This week, for the first time, they are able to offer coronavirus testing.
They are one of two pharmacies in the Bronx offering this, something they feel is very important right now.
To sign up for an appointment, you use the app ‘Prescryptive.’ Then on the day of your appointment, you go to a booth outside the pharmacy and get the nose swab through the window--and then it’s back to the app to get the results.
The tests are free for patients with Medicaid or Medicare Part B. Everyone else has to pay a $65 charge--but you can get reimbursed through most insurance companies.
They are offering testing from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, they say they plan to expand those hours as the demand continues to grow.
