Residents of Pelham Bay, Country Club and Spencer Estates communities took to the streets Wednesday, protesting against the proposed services cuts that would eliminate the Bx14 bus line.

Local residents say the Bx14 line is the only means of transportation for people living in the area, and if the Metropolitan Transportation Authority goes forward with the proposed cuts, aimed at closing its $1 billion budget gap, people would be left stranded.

Community members and elected officials, including Councilman James Vacca, Assemblyman Michael Benedetto and state Sen. Jeff Klein, gathered in front of a Bx14 stop to voice their protest.

?Now there's only one way to get out of this neighborhood, and that's through the 14 bus,? says Carmela Avellino. ?My husband and I can't walk to Pelham Bay - it's too far.?

Transit advocates argue that the elimination of Bx14 line and BxM7 express bus would not only do away with direct transportation link to Manhattan, but also to other parts of the Bronx.
