The first expected heat wave of the season is drawing near and Bronx residents are being warned to take precautions against the scorcher.
Temperatures are expected to skyrocket around 100 degrees in some areas and shatter heat records. For those who need a cool escape, local community centers, including the Bay Eden Senior Center in Baychester, will be open to provide air conditioning and water.
The city's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) also recommends staying out of the sun when possible, setting air conditioners to 78 degrees or lower and drinking plenty of fluids.
