Twenty schools in the Bronx were rewarded for earning As during a recent citywide assessment.
The schools received $30 per student for excelling in academic achievement and progress. The rewards ranged from $5,000 to $85,000 per school.
Schools Chancellor Joel Klein implemented the program to reward schools that helped students increase their academic performance and give the facilities money they can use for any additional resources.
The New York City Department of Education is leaving it up to the schools to spend the money on school programs and activities in manners they see fit. The 20 Bronx schools joined 134 other schools in the city who received the rewards.
