Police have arrested a school bus driver who allegedly abducted a teenage girl near Evander Childs High School and attempted to rape her.
Cops say 24-year-old Nicholas Vegier, of Co-op City, faces charges of attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment. He allegedly forced the 17-year-old girl into an ambulette Monday on East Gun Hill Road. A witness heard the girl screaming and alerted police. When cops arrived at the vehicle, they say they found Vegier trying to take the girl's clothes off. Police say the teen was understandably shaken, but unhurt.
Officials say Vegier is a licensed school bus driver who works in Queens and also works for Elite Ambulette Service in Mount Vernon. The Department of Education (DOE) has suspended Vegier. Residents say it's disgraceful that the DOE had Vegier on its payroll.
