Officials in the Bronx have approved the use of a new, eco-friendly road salt in the event that the borough gets more snow this winter.
The salt, which officials have called ?magic salt,? is non-toxic and non-corrosive, which protects vehicles and road surfaces. MTA officials say the ?magic salt? is more effective than the previous product they used, works better on tougher, colder conditions and requires less to cover larger areas.
Officials are also excited about the product, because it costs less. In addition, workers say the salt has a sweet smell, like molasses, and is easier to work with.
