One Brooklyn native is making an effort to get more funds to those suffering from brain injuries.

Michael Kim suffered a brain injury from blunt force trauma in February 2023. He was found face-down by a group of NYPD officers.

His daughter and former caregiver Andrea says his Medicare and Medicaid funds ran out rapidly, leaving his family to pay $15,000 a month for proper care.

Michael Kim lost his life a few months ago and now Andrea is advocating for $1 million in funding for the Brain Injury Association of New York state. That funding would go to help those who have been treated with brain injuries long after their hospital stay.

Andrea works full-time to honor her father by working to support families experiencing a similar financial burden to the one she faced alongside her father.
