A Brooklyn bodega is now a social media sensation for it's unique take on a NYC classic, the chopped cheese.
Prospect Park Deli has been run by Mohammed "Mike" Odeh by more than 30 years.
His two sons Yazen Odeh and Adam Odeh also help run the business, and the brothers had the idea to add a wagyu chopped cheese to the menu.
At first Mike said he didn't think the item would be successful, but after his sons started making social media videos about the sandwich, customers started pouring in.
"We use wagyu beef which is 100% American wagyu," said Yazen. "There is a big difference in the taste of the meat, the way the meat crisps up."
Videos of the brothers interacting with customers and making their orders have gone viral garnering hundreds of thousands of views on both TikTok and Instagram.
The bodega makes the sandwich on a regular hero or sesame hero, or you can get the chopped cheese any way want it.
"We put it on noodles sometimes," said Yazen. "People come with pink bulldog noodles. We put it on a Doritos bags of chips. Any crazy thing you feel like eating that day we can make it happen."
A key element to their social media success is the customers they feature in their videos who showcase New York City culture.
"We have aggressive people who walk in here, we have kind people," said Yazen.
The Odeh's said customers are now coming from all over Brooklyn and beyond to try their wagyu chopped cheese and said they are thankful for all the love and support.
