Health officials are launching a public awareness campaign Tuesday to let Brooklyn and city immigrants know their status will not be reported when seeking treatment at public hospitals.
The city?s Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) told AM New York that many immigrants do not seek medical attention because they fear deportation. However, HHC officials say Brooklyn and city public hospitals cannot share information on a patient?s immigration status. According to HHC officials, this has been a longstanding policy of the agency, which runs 11 city hospitals and 80 community clinics in the five boroughs.
HHC facilities in Brooklyn include Coney Island Hospital, Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center and Kings County Hospital Center.
