Brooklyn co-op owners protested in front of the attorney general?s office about sponsors refusing to relinquish control of buildings to the shareholders. Several co-op owners from Midwood say they got a bad deal. They say their sponsors still control the building?s finances even though the sponsors should have handed over control after the conversion from apartment to co-op. A spokesperson from the attorney general?s office says the AG regulates privately owned and operated apartment buildings and co-ops and they don?t normally get involved in this type of landlord tenant dispute. Co-op owners say that leaves sponsors with regulation. They say their only recourse is to take the sponsors to court.
