A student who moved from the Dominican Republic to the United States took to the stage at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music Saturday for a recital.
Dylan is one of 75 students studying music at Brooklyn Conservatory of Music's brand-new Community Music Center. When he came to the U.S. two years ago, he already played the violin and recorder. Now, thanks to the nonprofit, he has taken up two more instruments – trumpet and guitar.
The program offers students living in underserved communities’ access to reduced pricing or free music lessons on Saturdays.
"It helped me out with the language to talk more and it gives me opportunities through music," Dylan said.
News 12’s Julia Joseph was at the recital and learned more about the program.
