One Brooklyn councilmember says she feels privileged to represent voters in the neighborhood where she grew up. Councilmember Darlene Mealy (D-Brooklyn) beat nine other candidates in one of Brooklyn?s most heated City Council races, including the sitting councilwoman?s own father. Mealy, who started a block association to fight drug dealers, says the youth is her top priority. At a recent Head Start graduation ceremony she told parents they need to get involved in their child?s life to keep them away from drugs and crime. Mealy says now that her Crown Heights district office is open she wants all of her constituents to stop by with concerns and questions.
