A Brooklyn woman and her husband have turned their hobby into a volunteer program that provides victims of domestic violence with homemade knitted items.
Sue and Jerome Rock founded the non-profit organization Sue Rock Originals Everyone after their friend was killed during a violent domestic dispute.
"She went back home, and that was the last time we saw her alive,? Sue Rock says. ?We were rudely awakened to the problem and how severe it is."
The non-profit, staffed by volunteers, uses donated yarn and other raw materials to create sweaters, shrugs, pocketbooks, pouches, hats and many other items. The clothing and accessories are then distributed to women who have survived domestic violence. They have made and donated over 1,000 items.
The Rocks have now begun making ceramic gifts and have also created two used-book libraries.
