A Brooklyn couple is speaking out after they say they have been dealing with a leak in their wall that has been flooding their entire apartment for months. They say it has forced them to live in damp and smelly conditions.
Tiffany Maldonado and Donavan Green say that their Borinquen Plaza apartment has had the issue since December. They say that the flooding has gotten so bad that their 1-year-old daughter can’t live there because it has become a safety hazard.
The water covered the floor of the apartment, going into the hallway and into other rooms of the unit. The couple says that they first noticed the issue when they came back from vacation and saw water seeping out of the apartment.
They say that the apartment now smells like mildew and that they have has to remove tiles on their floor.
Maldonado, who is pregnant, says that she feels like living in the apartment is not only unsafe for her, but also for her daughter who would sometimes slip on the water.
They say that staff from the New York City Housing Authority have come out and determined that the leak is coming from a broken sewer pipe in the wall. But the couple says that the NYCHA hasn’t done much to stop the leak.
They say that they hope that the issue is corrected soon so that they can go back to living their normal lives.
