Baseball is back at Coney Island as the Brooklyn Cyclones kicked off their first game of the season at Maimonides Park.
Fans of all ages received a warm welcome from the Cyclones, saying they’re looking forward to seeing the future Mets on the roster help bring the hometown minor league team to the title.
Familiar faces in the dugout include Chris Newell, who is taking on a new role as the Cyclones’ skipper, and Bronx native Ritchie Benes, who is starting his second season as the team’s hitting coach.
“I don’t think we’ll have any losses, I promise you,” said Benes.
The ceremonial first pitch was thrown by Assemblymember Alec Brook-Krasny, who brought his grandson along for the special moment.
“We're just happy that people are here, and our community is playing baseball again,” said Brook-Krasny’s grandson. “This was my first game. I was so excited to do this with my grandpa."
The Cyclones will be playing the Jersey Shore Blueclaws all weekend long, and the next game kicks off at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
