Brooklyn family celebrates birth of child on Leap Day

There’s around a one in 1,461 chance for someone to be born on Leap Day, and many believe that “leaplings” have a little something extra special.

Two new parents weren’t expecting their child to come before March 4, but are now celebrating their newborn who came into this world on Leap Day.
Jenny Vazquez went in for a routine check-up on Tuesday and learned that she and her husband Juan Melgar wouldn’t be going back home.
Their baby, Luan, was born just before 3:30 a.m. on Leap Day.
There’s around a one in 1,461 chance for someone to be born on Leap Day, and many believe that “leaplings” have a little something extra special.
“When I gave birth, people came out of the woodwork who were leap year babies and told me that leap year babies are clairvoyant,” said Tina Lee, a Brooklyn mother who gave birth to twins on Leap Day in 2012.
