The Brooklyn District Attorney and the state Attorney General?s Office is urging victims of green card scams to come forward.
An illegal immigrant, who wishes to remain unnamed, says she is out $1,200 dollars after a fellow church member promised to get her a green card, but she says the woman never produced the document. Authorities believe people posing as lawyers or ?immigration consultants? is a major scam in Brooklyn and throughout the city. The scammers do not produce receipts and refuse to put anything in writing so their victims have no proof they were involved.
Authorities say illegal immigrants can report the fraud anonymously if they are afraid they will be deported.
