A Prospect Heights intersection was co-named Friday in honor of several firefighters who died on Sept. 11.
St. John?s Place and Washington Avenue, now known as Fireman?s Corner, is named for seven firefighters from Engine 280 and Ladder 132.
Family members of the fallen firefighters attended the ceremony to pay tribute. Margaret Ryan lost her husband, Battalion Chief Michael Ryan, in the attacks. She said the co-naming is an honor for all firefighters like her late husband.
Local leaders and firefighters said they hope residents will look at the new street sign and remember the sacrifices firefighters make everyday.
