A Brooklyn man has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for illegally selling kidneys.
Levy Rosenbaum, of Bensonhurst, learned his fate in a New Jersey courtroom after pleading guilty last October to setting up three kidney transplants in exchange for payments of at least $120,000.
Rosenbaum admitted to the crime, but said his motives were altruistic. Several people testified that he helped save their lives.
Prosecutors say the case is the first-ever federal conviction for the crime.
