A Brooklyn mother and her boyfriend were indicted for murder, accused of beating and starving her 3-year-old son to death.
Robert White, 39, and Sunshyne Davis, 25, allegedly dropped Kyng Davis’ body off at SUNY Downstate Hospital just before 11:30 a.m. on March 9, 2025.
Prosecutors say the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner found that the 3-year-old died from abuse and neglect, including blunt force trauma, starvation and dehydration.
The couple was living in White's car at the time of Kyng's death, according to court documents.
"This innocent child allegedly suffered day after day, denied the most basic care and compassion. Instead of safeguarding Kyng Davis, the defendants are accused of inflicting the very harm that led to his death," said Gonzalez.
White was arrested and charged a short time after the child's death on separate charges. He allegedly repeatedly struck Kyng in the face on Feb. 22, 2025.
White's cousin, Nikita Nash, reported the incident to police a day after the child passed away. Nash told officers that she had to intervene to stop White's attack on the 3-year-old.
Prosecutors say White pleaded not guilty to the assault and has been behind bars awaiting trial ever since.
Now, both he and Davis are charged with second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Davis faced a judge for the first time on Wednesday, while White will be arraigned on the new charges at a later date.
"We will vigorously prosecute this case to secure justice for Kyng and ensure accountability for this devastating tragedy," said Gonzalez.
