Monday was the start of Pride Week in Brooklyn and events were held in the borough to celebrate the LGBTQ community.
To kick things off, the rainbow pride flag was raised at Borough Hall Monday. An interfaith service for the LGBTQ community was also held at Saint Ann and the Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn Heights. The service was co-sponsored by the Brooklyn Community Pride Center.
The theme for the 18th annual Brooklyn Pride Week is "Coming of Age." The service featured spiritual messages on this topic and speakers talked about faith, god and acceptance.
Pride Week will be capped off Saturday with a twilight pride parade. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Councilman Carlos Menchaca, Brooklyn's first openly gay councilman, will be two of the four grand marshals.
