Brooklyn residents descended on City Hall Tuesday to decry plans for cutbacks at the New York City Housing Authority.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently announced that all city agencies will be exposed to budget cuts as the local economy continues to reel from decreasing Wall Street revenue. The NYCHA says it will have to shutter 18 community centers under the new budget.
In addition to the closures, 200 employees will be laid off by the NYCHA. The city says it plans to reallocate the services provided by community centers to other city agencies.
