People around the borough and around the world spent Friday marking the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
On this day in 1944, troops landed along the French coastline to fight the German Nazis on the beaches of Normandy. More than 9,000 soldiers were killed or wounded.
In Bay Ridge, people visited the war memorial to reflect on the day and pay tribute to those who fought for freedom.
Several residents said they were thankful for all that was sacrificed to make today's freedom possible.
