Alumni have joined a group of Brooklyn Technical High School students in condemning what they say is racism they experienced there.
Supporters are using the hashtag #BlackInBrooklynTech to express their stories of alleged racism at the school.
The students have accused teachers and classmates of using racist slurs. Some reported being threatened by other students because of the color of their skin.
The hashtag picked up momentum in December, when school officials say it came to their attention.
Alumni approached officials Wednesday to demand a crackdown, and an online petition is collecting signatures for the cause.
School administrators say racism is not tolerated and they are aware of the issue. Some students have already been suspended, and the school is investigating a number of teachers.
School officials say that in February, students and faculty members will attend meetings on the issue.
